This is my new fieldwork-blog. I will use this blog as a kind of diary, so that my friends and family can be updated about what I´m doing in Seattle. I´m writing in English mostly so that I can practice my English, but also so that the people I meet in Seattle can read it a well. My future friends ;) It will not be just positive writings, I know that the first months of fieldwork can be pretty hard, but I also know that it will get better.
The preparations for my fieldwork already started months ago. I just learned that I passed my exams, I got a visa for seven months in USA, and I have started reading about ethnicity and identity. I will be leaving Oslo January 22, and return July 28. That means I will be gone for six months and six days, and I´m really looking forward to it. I have been lucky; one of my moms best friends is from Seattle, she have been most helpful and given me some contacts for me to start with.
I don´t really know why I chose Seattle over the Upper-Midwest states in USA, but I did. Maybe because I wanted to look at the Norwegian identity in a more urban way, and maybe because I think Seattle is an exiting town.
Hopefully, my English writing will get better too as times goes by.
